Meta Scraps E2EE DMs on Instagram: A Strategic Retreat from Privacy Push

Instagram is pulling the plug on end-to-end encrypted direct messages starting May 8th. Meta spokesperson Dina El-Kassaby Luce confirmed to The Verge that the feature is being discontinued because “very few people” engaged with E2EE in their DMs. The company has begun notifying affected users within the app and is now redirecting focus toward other messaging priorities.
