Corporate boards are once again deploying compensation protections for top executives as geopolitical shocks rattle global markets. An analysis of 50 major public companies reveals that CEOs collected 8% higher total pay in 2025, with annual bonuses up 4%, even as median revenue growth slowed to 2.9% and earnings per share dipped 1.6%. Boards are using conservative performance targets, widened payout curves, and post-hoc cost adjustments to insulate executive pay from volatility.
